We stopped for a drink here before eating at the bistro up the road and what an absolute gem this place is! Lovely friendly feel to it, with carefully crafted decor and great choice of beers. Even a gluten free option or two for me. Really impressed, and the regulars held doors open for us out of towners. Lovely stuff. We will be back!

Visited with my Boyfriend and Brother. Absolutely loved it. The local history is amazing, every where you look there is a connection to local history, plus everything is unique and authentic. The staff are second to none, makes you feel like an old friend even if you are a first time customer. Bar staff are so kind, friendly, chatty and knowledgeable. Plus there is a resident dog, what's not to love! Plus a real fire. No tv and or loud music, you can actually hear and talk to the people you are with. So many fun activities plus live music. Everything is so clean and well maintained. Would highly recommend.

Spent a great afternoon/evening 'gannin' on the hoy' at The Steamboat. Great selection of ales, great atmosphere with a pleasantly packed crowd visibly enjoying themselves. Lots of pub chatter & a rock soundtrack over the sound system - a great boozer!

Paulicarus was happy to bring me back here after a gap of a few years. I have been a good few times in the last 40 years. One of the leading lights in bringing real ale to South Shields. Super ship themed interior with a great landlady and local crowd of regulars. Real fire welcome as the wind whistles off the Tyne. Narrow bar area so turn left where two rooms open out. Had a Maxim brewery 4.6% Vista Time then a Taylor's Boltmaker bitter. Both excellent.
